Meerkats:
UK Status: Non resident, can be seen however
in zoo's, animal rescue sanctuaries, wildlife parks tropical houses, and
other places with captive animals.
Habitat:
This delightful, playful little animal is a type of Mongoose from South
Africa. They are highly social, and are burrowing creatures that live
together in communal galleries of tunnels. There can be anything from
two, to about thirty individuals in any one colony. Meerkats are to be
found in Northern and Western South Africa, and extend a little way into
South Western Angola. They are also found in South Western Botswana, and
in Western and Southern Namibia.
Breeding:
These creatures breed all the year around, breeding tends to peak
however from January through into March. Gestation is sixty to seventy
days, and usually litters of three to seven pups are born.

These animals have won over the hearts of many people, and even appeared
in many TV adverts, ' Compare the Meerkat.com', for instance.
