Irish Heath:

UK Status: Resident, but only native to Ireland.

Flowering Period: Autumn through to spring.

Appx Height: Up to 75cm.

Habitat: This is a plant of cliff tops and heath land in it's native Ireland. It is a much loved garden plant, being very hardy and colourful. Many varieties of this heath have been bred and marketed by commercial plant nurseries. The picture on the right is a fine example, that is growing in my own garden.

Comment: This form of Erica is native to the eastern half of Ireland. This plants appearance in western Ireland, and on the British mainland, strongly suggests garden escapes.
