Wild Chicory:

UK Status: Native to  Eurasia, but has been imported and eventually become naturalised in parts Europe, the UK and America.

Flowering Period: Flowering from late June through into October.

Appx Height: Depending on the soil condition up to 1.8 metres in height.

Habitat: This plant is a lover of open grassy areas, and can be found in meadows, roadside verges, canal sides, disused railways, waste ground and other open grassy places.

Comment: Chicory is usually light blue or lavender in colour, sometimes they have pink and white coloured flowers, though this is rare. It's leaves are used in salads, and from the roots a coffee substitute can be made. Chicory is also known by the following names, Succory, Blue Sailors, Blue Dandelion, Blue Cornflower, Blue Weed, Bunk, Coffee Weed and Ragged Sailors.
