Goose:
UK Status: Non resident, the Bar-headed Geese
found in various parts of the UK are escapee's from ornamental
collections, and are breeding in the wild..
Habitat: This goose prefers
high altitude hill, and mountain lakes, surrounded by short grasses.
Breeding: This goose nests
on the ground, and seems to prefer islands in rivers and lakes. They are
quite happy to use special nesting boxes designed to suit their needs.
The female goose lays four to six eggs in a clutch, and sometimes they
will lay a second clutch later in the year.
Comment: It breeds it
Central Asia in colonies numbering thousands of birds. The bird migrates
to South Asia to overwinter, and can go as far as the India Peninsular.
This Goose is migratory and flies at extreme altitude when crossing the
Himalayan Mountain range.
