Status: Resident in UK. When Around: May until July Habitat: They inhabit woodland , hedgerows, commons, heaths and gardens with suitably rotting wood on which their larvae feed. Comment: This beetle is fairly common and found in most parts of Britain. The adults vary in colour from yellowish, to yellowish brown through to reddish brown. |

Status: Resident in UK. When Around: June until August. Habitat: They inhabit well established, and ancient woodland, with mature trees. The larvae feed on decaying wood. Comment: This beetle is not common, and is seldom encountered. It is widely distributed throughout England, Wales and southern Scotland. The Musk beetle is very similar to the Variable Longhorn. |

Status: Resident in UK. When Around: May until September. Habitat: Adult beetles and the larvae feed on dead rodents and birds. The adult beetles locate dead animals and birds, and then bury them in the ground by excavating underneath the carcass. Both parents feed the grubs on partially digested remains of the dead carcass. Comment: Wide spread over the UK. |

Status: Resident in UK. When Around: May until October. Habitat: These beetles are usually on dry sandy, and chalk soils, heather moor land and heaths, and like warm weather. Comment: Not as common as it used to be, but is well distributed on heaths and moors throughout most of the UK. |
