Status: Resident in UK.

Wing Span: 32mm to 48mm.

Flight Period: June to September.

Habitat: Found gardens, waste ground, moor land, heaths, road side verges and many other situations.

Comment: This moth  is common and widely distributed in England and Wales, less common in the north but wide spread as far up as Sutherland.

Flight Period: May and June.

Habitat: Found in gardens, parks, waste ground, moor land, heaths, road side verges, wood land.

Comment: This moth  is widespread in the UK, and quite common in England and Wales. Scarcer in Ireland, and localised in Scotland.

Status: Resident in UK.

Wing Span: 32mm to 50mm.

Flight Period: May into July.

Habitat: Bracken roots are the larval food plant, the moth is found in open wood land and moor land.

Comment: Moths of this species are wide spread but local in the British Isles.

Flight Period: June and July.

Habitat: Found in gardens, parks, waste ground, moor land, heaths, road side verges, wood land and other places.

Comment:  This moths is localised but not uncommon in the UK. It occurs, as far north as Caithness and Sutherland.

Wing Span: 44mm to 60mm.

Flight Period: June and July. Male moths hover just above the ground in a ghostly fashion.

Habitat: Found in open grassy area's such as road verges, meadows, river banks.

Comment: Moths of this species are a common and widely is distributed in the UK, including Orkney and the Hebrides.

Habitat: Found in open grassy area's such as road side verges, meadows, embankments, river banks.

Comment: This moth is  common through out England, Wales and Ireland, and it is wide spread, but mainly coastal in  Scotland.

Status: Resident in UK.

Wing Span: 30mm to 46mm.

Flight Period: June to July.

Habitat:  Found on commons, marshes, under cliffs, waste ground, open woodland other areas where it food plants grow.

Comment: This moth is common, and wide spread in England, Found in the south east of Wales, also In Ireland, the Isle of Skye.

Status: Resident in UK.

Wing Span: 32mm to 40mm.

Flight Period: July and August.

Habitat: Habitats are damp meadows, marshes and the damper part of heathlands.

Comment: This species widespread and common locally in south west England. Also in Hampshire, North and south Wales, Norfolk and the Isle of Man.

Caterpillars are the larvae of Butterflies and Moths.          The young of other insects are called larvae, or nymphs.          Caterpillars have three basic sets of leg arrangements.
